A brush with the tenderloin

SYNOPSIS: A portrait of one of San Francisco’s grittiest, yet most diverse, neighborhoods -- the Tenderloin -- told through the evolution of a community-inspired mural by artist Mona Caron.

A BRUSH WITH THE TENDERLOIN is a cinema verite documentary that follows what happens when a soft-spoken muralist decides to paint a fanciful mural on one of San Francisco's diciest street corners.

Through the course of the film we get up-close and personal with a diverse collection of locals as they interact directly with muralist Mona Caron and end up playing key roles in the mural's evolution. Among the characters, we meet homeless rocker 'Indian Joe,' who is on a quest to meet Alice Cooper, along with recovering heroin addict Lisa Demb and neighborhood kite-maker Jeff Marshall.

“... an artfully told, heartfelt film,” -- Mill Valley Film Festival.

The National Academy of Television and Arts (NATAS), Northern California, awarded our documentary an Emmy Award on June 15, 2013. See the Pics tab for more info.
